LAHORE, July 15: As many as 82,059 metric tones mangoes were exported this year earning a foreign exchange of $24 million and capturing over 10.10 share in the world market.

Special efforts were being made to enhance mango export through seeking new markets, including the US, the Netherlands and the UAE.

This was stated at a meeting of the Agriculture Marketing here on Saturday. It was stated that various measures were being taken for enhancing mango export, including introduction of the one-window operation, at all major airports in the country.

PIA would be asked to start special flights for mango exports from Multan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan which were the main production areas.

Training facilities were also being extended to stakeholders for proper packing, grading and transportation of the fruit.

It was being considered to form working groups comprising farmers, traders, agriculture professors, exporters, cold storage owners and representatives of government departments to help boost exports of mango, the meeting was told.
