KARACHI: 3 cops held for killing suspect in cold blood

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 15: Three policemen were arrested on Saturday following registration of a case against them for allegedly killing a suspect in cold blood.

A suspected robber was allegedly killed by the policemen in a fake encounter near DJ Government Science College here on Tuesday. The Supreme Court had taken a suo motu notice of the incident and summoned the IGP and Advocate General Sindh to appear before it in Lahore on Tuesday next.

The FIR (No.445/06) was registered at the Preedy police station on the complaint of Faisal Iqbal, brother of the deceased, Mazhar Iqbal. The complainant has nominated SI Jehanzeb, in-charge of the Arambagh police post, and constables Chan Pervez and Mohammad Aslam.

DIG Investigation Zone-I Manzoor Mughal has said that the three accused have been arrested and put behind the bars. They would be produced before a court for remand on Monday, he added.

Mazhar Iqbal, allegedly involved in more than 12 cases of murder, police encounter, street crime, etc., was taken to the scene of the incident near DJ College where, according to witnesses, he was dragged out of the van and shot dead. However, the police disputed the witnesses’ claim and insisted that Mazhar had been killed in an encounter.
