KARACHI, July 14: Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has directed that steps be taken for maintaining exemplary cleanliness in and around educational institutions so that students are provided a clean and better environment.

On his directive, the city government has decided to take immediate steps for improving sanitary conditions in its schools whereby teacher's committees would be formed in each institution and every teacher would be bound to remain in the committee for three months.

These committees would start functioning on reopening of schools after summer vacations and headmaster of every school would be bound to submit monthly reports about steps taken for maintaining cleanliness, to higher officials.

If any negligence or slackness is noticed in case of a surprise visit, strict action would be taken against those responsible.

In order to ensure cleanliness in school premises, the voluntary services of students would also be obtained to make them play their individual role besides creation of a sense of responsibility in them.

The City Government also decided to have cooperation of prominent persons, public representatives, Town municipal officers, school management committees and general public so that Nazim's directives are implemented through public-private partnership.

EDO Education Allah Dad Memon has made a request to all the TMOs for removal of encroachments within the jurisdiction of educational institutions so that no problem is caused in carrying out cleanliness work.—APP

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of Primary Education, Shamim Akhtar, has said that the city government would provide all possible facilities for promotion of educational standards.

Speaking at a meeting of local bodies education officers at her officer, she said that attention would be paid on good and quality education, adding transfers would not be made on recommendations.

She also sought lists of schools so that plants and fertilizer could be provided to them.

The meeting was informed that number of teachers in morning shifts was more than its requirement while in the evening shifts, there was a shortage of teachers.

The meeting also demanded that the posts of local bodies education officers be made equivalent to other government officers.

The chairperson asked the officers to submit their suggestions and recommendations in this regard.—PPI/APP
