LONDON, July 13: Crude oil prices breached $76 for the first ever time on Thursday as Israel pressed on with an offensive in Lebanon while key producer Iran remained defiant in the face of Western pressure to rein in its nuclear ambitions.

New York’s main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in August, hit a record 76.40 in pit trading.

Brent North Sea crude for August delivery also struck a historic $76.23 per barrel in electronic dealing. —AFP
