CM urges peace between Teghani, Ogahi tribes

SUKKUR, July 13: The Sindh Chief Minister has urged police to improve the law and order situation in Larkana, Jacobabad and Kashmore and curb tribal feuds, especially clashes between Teghani and Ogahi tribes.

Clashes between the two tribes have claimed several lives during the past six months.

According to the sources, soon after the directives were issued, the DIG police, Larkana, summoned chief of the Teghani tribe Tegho Khan Teghani and chief of the Ogahi tribe MPA Abid Khan Sundrani, and asked them to hand over people of their respective tribes involved in various crimes to the police.

The DIG is also learnt to have urged them to maintain law and order and avoid further bloodshed. The sources said that the DIG had also warned them that anyone violating these directives would be severly dealt with. He also urged both the chieftains to visit their respective areas and convince their people to commit to a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the recent Teghani-Ogahi clash increased to 10 after Mohammad Hassan Ogahi, who had been injured, died in a hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.

The incident has escalated tension in the area.

WATER SHORTAGE: Growers and activists of the Sindhiani Tehrik staged a joint demonstration near the press club in Thull on Thursday, to protest against water shortage and the release of drainage water in an irrigation distributary canal.

The protesters, led by Roshan Din Kandrani, Deedar Kandrani, Zarina Baloch, Waziran and Khan Zadi, were chanting slogans against irrigation department officials.

Representatives of the protesters said termed it ironical that while there was a shortage of water in the Thull Distry Shakh, drainage water was being released in it, damaging their crops.
