TT squad for SAF Games

KARACHI, July: Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) on Wednesday named a 10-member squad for the 10th SAF Games which runs in Colombo from August 18 to 28.

The team includes five men and as many women.

With the exception of former national champion, Rahila Kashif, the other nine players were currently training in China and would return on August 4. Rahila could not accompany the team due to domestic problem.

Pakistan’s tally of medals in the SAF table tennis competition so far is three golds, six silvers and five bronze.

Former national champion, Arif Khan, stand tall as he claimed all the three golds. He did the country proud by capturing the men’s singles gold medals at Calcutta in 1987 and Islamabad in 1989. His third gold came when he teamed up with Nazo to win the mixed doubles at the home soil in 1989.

Pakistan ended with two bronze in men’s doubles and mixed doubles in the last SAF Games held at Islamabad two years back.

Squad:

(Men) Asim Qureshi, Kashif Razzak, Ali Sajjad Faisal, Salim Abbas Kazmi, Hasan Haider. (Women) Rahila Kashif, Ghalia Khurshid, Kanwal Iqbal, Sadiq Yasin, Ayesha Iqbal. Officials: Hafeezullah (manager); Irfanullah, Tayyaba Gill; Chinese coach (coaches).
