Body found, fake currency seized

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, July 12: Body of a man was found a dried rain-water course in Phase-I of Hayatabad township on Wednesday afternoon, police officials said.

The deceased seemed to be an Afghan national and the killer had written “the destiny of US spy” in Pashto on his undergarments, said a police official of Hayatabad police station.

“We don’t know.....he may be a foreigner or a local,” said Mohim Khan. Some time a criminal writes such things to mislead police investigation, he said.

The police were informed at 2:10pm about a plastic sack lying in the dried drain near the Town-III Nazim office, police officials said.

The deceased was about 36-year-old. His hand was tied at the back and there were clear marks of torture on his body and around neck, suggesting that he was strangled after being beaten severely, they added. His body was shifted to the Edhi centre for burial, they added.

ARREST: The city police arrested two persons on the charge of smuggling counterfeit Pakistani currency to Punjab on Wednesday, said a press release.

On a tip off about a plan to smuggle fake Pakistani currency notes from tribal area to Punjab, the University Town police set up a checkpoint near the Board area on the Jamrud Road.

During checking of vehicles, the police arrested Mohammad Fazil and Nasir Iqbal, both residents of Chak No1009 of district Sahiwal and recovered counterfeit currency notes amounting to Rs43,000 from their possessions.
