By Our Correspondent

SIALKOT, July 11: As many as four Kashmiri voters were seriously hurt during firing incidents at two polling stations where rival groups clashed on Tuesday. According to official reports, in the first incident, 15 armed persons led by PPPP’s MPA Malik Tahir Akhtar Awan allegedly stormed into a polling station at Kulluwal near Head Marala.

The accused allegedly started casting bogus votes by stamping the ballot papers. As local leaders of the Muslim Conference offered resistance, the accused opened fire, injuring three voters— Muhammad Ashfaq, Sherazul Hassan, Umer Bin Khalid.

The firing created panic among the polling staff and voters, who took to their heels. The accused fled away firing in the air. The polling remained suspended for about 40 minutes.

Head Marala police are investigating.

Similarly, in Hunterpura locality of the city, 20 unidentified armed men led by Chaudhry Muhammad Suhail, a candidate of the People’s Muslim League from LA-32, Jammu III constituency, allegedly stormed into the polling station. After taking the staff and voters hostage, the accused allegedly damaged the polling material.

On facing resistance from the Muslim Conference workers, the accused opened fire injuring a voter, Ramzan alias Jaani.

The accused fled away firing in the air.

The injured were admitted to the Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital in a critical condition.
