27 women released from Adiala jail

RAWALPINDI, July 11: As many as 27 women prisoners, three of them foreigners were released from Central Jail Adiala on Tuesday in light of new presidential ordinance, the jail authorities said.

The bail documents for the remaining 79 female prisoners are being prepared and their release is expected within next 48 hours. There were 106 under-trial women prisoners in Adiala jail who are to be benefited from the new law.

The three foreigners were identified as Mariam Abegei, 47, from Logas, Nigeria booked by the Banni police in drug trafficking case on May 2005; Aziza Magrubli Onoye, 24, from Uzbakistan booked by the Waris Khan police in drug trafficking case in May 2005 and Hamdalat, 39, from Nigeria was arrested by the Airport police on charges of drug trafficking on February 2005.

Out of the 27 female prisoners released on Tuesday, 17 were involved in drug trafficking, five in Hadood cases, one in theft, one in robbery, one in fraud and one in kidnapping.

Perveen Akhtar, 50, a resident of Lahore was arrested by the Pindi police on charges of robbery and cheating on May 2005.

Mst Sadif Naz, 22, was arrested by the Sadiqabad police on charges of fruad on April 2006. Shabnam Perveen, 30, a resident of Islamabad was arrested by the Sadiqabad police on charges of cheating on June 2006. Mst Nasreen wife of Nazir was arrested by the Civil Lines police on theft charges on July 2006.

Nasreen, 28, resident of Lahore was arrested by the Westridge police on charges of narcotics trafficking on January 2003. Suriya Bibi, 24,  a resident of Rawalpindi was arrested by the Murree police under Haad Zina on September 2004.

Nasra, 35, was arrested by Kahuta police on March 2005 on drug trafficking charges, Suriya Bibi, 50, a resident of Gujranwala was arrested by the Rawat police on charges of drug trafficking on August 2005, Anjaman Bibi 40, a resident of Mardan was arrested by the Rawat police on August 2005 on drug trafficking charges, Perveen alias Peeno, 45, was arrested by Sadiqbad police in a Zina case, Hazrat Bibi, 50, from Rawalpindi was arrested by Westridge police on drug trafficking charges on March 2006.

Balqees, 48, a resident of Rawalpindi was arrested by the Waris Khan police on April 2006, Razia Bibi, 50, was arrested by the Sadiqabd police in drug case, Mst Bakht Zari, 40 and Bufar Nina 20 were arrested by the Pirwadhai police on drug charges.
