KARACHI, July 11: An insecticide spraying drive has been started in Jamshed Town on Tuesday. Inaugurating the drive, Town Nazim Mohammad Arif Ajakia said the campaign would continue even after the rainy season. He said fumigation would be carried out on emergency basis at each garbage-collection point of all union councils.
He directed for daily preparation of reports about fumigation so that it could be ensured that all areas were being covered.
The town nazim accompanied by TMO Altaf Memon also conduct a surprise visit to examine fumigation drive and issued directives on the occasion in this regard.
BALDIA: The town administration of Baldia arrested three accused and pulled down illegally constructed boundary walls in Qaimkhani Colony on Tuesday.
A press release said that the town taking notice of the illegal occupation and construction of boundary walls of different plots of 500 and 1000 yards by the land mafia arrested 16 persons, including 13 labourers. The illegal structures were also razed. Later, the labourers were set free while police registered a case against the rest of three.
Baldia Town Nazim Kamran Akhtar said that encroachments would not be tolerated on public property in the town.
LANDHI: Landhi Town administration launched a drive against illegal water connections in various areas of the town and cut off many illegal water connections.
Speaking on the occasion, Town Nazim Muhammad Ismail Qureshi asked the residents as well as owners of cattle pens and factories to cut illegal water connections, themselves. He warned that if any person was found having an illegal water connection, stern legal action would be taken against him.
He said that people involved in water theft through illegal water connection were creating artificial shortage of water in the town, besides destroying roads and streets by digging them.
Later, he inspected the areas of UC-9, where the raid team cut off some illegal water connections. He also directed the officials to receive road cutting charges from those responsible.
Area people told the nazim that some black sheep in the KWSB including linemen were taking bribes of Rs4,000 per month from the owners of cattle pens and factories, Rs2,000 from nursery owners and Rs300 to Rs100 from domestic users for illegal water connections. He asked the area residents to keep an eye on involved staff and inform the town office about their activities.
TMO Muhammad Nazir Lakhani, Town Naib Nazim Asif Hasnain, SE (W&S) Wajid, XEN Water Saeed Sheikh and Nazim UC-9 Rashid Ali Khan were also present.
MALIR: In order to cope with any untoward situation during rains and discharging rainwater form low-lying areas, Malir Town Nazim Ansar Sheikh handed over equipment like de-watering pumps, raincoats, helmets, torches to the rain emergency squad.
In a press release issued here, the town nazim said they were serving the masses devotedly and without any discrimination. He said that all the preventive arrangements had been completed across the town especially in goths. He said that the central relief camp had been set up in the town office, while sub-relief camps in all the seven union councils of the town.
He said the relief camps would be activated as soon as the rainy season started. He said that daily-use commodities and medicines would also be provided to the affected people at these relief camps.
LIAQUATABAD: KWSB MD Brig Iftikhar Haider on Tuesday said that water boardwould provide extra machinery and manpower for de-silting work of rainwater drains in Liaquatabad Town.
He stated this in a meeting with Liaquatabad Town Nazim Osama Qadri at his office.
The nazim told the water board chief about the slow pace of cleaning work of rainwater nullahs in the town. He said that these nullahs were also the disposal points for New Karachi, North Nazimabad and Gulberg towns. He said that cleaning of nullahs in these towns would not be fruitful until the de-silting of nullahs in Liaquatabad was not initiated.
He further said that after cleaning of nullahs, silt and garbage along the drains must be removed, otherwise it would re-fill the nullahs during rains. Osama Qadri said that immediate steps were needed to complete work on new projects and repairing of water pipelines in different areas of the town.
KWSB MD issued orders to the concerned officials in this regard and said that he would visit the town on Friday to review the situation.—PPI
