94 women prisoners released in Punjab

LAHORE, July 10: As many as 94 women prisoners were released from different jails of Punjab on Monday in the light of the presidential ordinance. Of the 124 women at the Kot Lakhpat Jail here, eight were released. Similarly, 15 were freed from Faisalabad, six from Sheikhupura, 34 from Sialkot, 25 from Sahiwal and seven from Gujranwala jails.

Those released from here Kot Lakhpat were identified as Aalia Kiran of Tajpura, Shakila of Pattoki, Mariam Saeed, Kishwar, Zohra, Maqsoodan Bibi and Maqboolan Bibi.

Aalia Kiran told newsmen she was implicated in a theft case when she could not fulfil the demands of her in-laws to bring money from her parents.

Zohra said she was involved in kidnapping case, while Shakeela, Mariam and Kishwar said they were implicated in theft cases.

Punjab minister for jail Niwani said 14 more prisoners would be released From Kot Lakhpat on Tuesday.

“Of 700 women in various jails in the province, 350 will benefit from the ordinance”, the minister said.

Later, the minister distributed clothes and Rs 200 each among the released prisoners.
