Karachi pairs’ bridge today

KARACHI, July 10: Players are invited to participate in the Karachi Club Pairs bridge competition at the Karachi Club on Tuesday. Attractive prizes will be offered to winners.

Meanwhile, it was a full house on the opening day of the Karachi Bridge Association weekend bridge programmes.

In the Mitchel Movement, competing from East-West direction, Faisal Ahsan-Tabrez Javed left others far behind to claim the honour of the week with 62.13 per cent score.

Ghufran Ashraf-Tariq Zafar occupied second berth with 61.45 and Khalid Zaki-F.A. Naeem claimed third place with 59.83 per cent score.

The favourite pair Zia-Hamid once again lived up to their reputation claiming the honour from North-South direction with the score of 62 per cent followed by Shahab Saeed-S.P. Jamal 59.40 and Qamar Puri-Mubashir Puri 58.90 per cent score.

In the team event, once again Candyland claimed the top position with 102 victory points. Having Hamid, Khalid, Hasan Askari, Rashid Jafar, Mubashir Puri in its fold, they defeated Ilyas 25-5, Hyder 25-01, Attackers 22-8 and Marathon 17-13 losing last round match 13-17 to Kizilbash.

Puri and Ahmed both scored 89 but were placed second since the former defeated the latter in their mutual encounter.—PPI
