KARACHI: Exhibition for promoting culture planned


KARACHI, July 10 : A high-level meeting, presided over by Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman in his officer here on Monday, decided to organize a photographic exhibition depicting the cultural heritage, natural beauty and ancient buildings of the province.

The exhibition would be organized in the next few weeks at Jahangir Kothari Parade by the provincial tourism department.

The decision was taken after a detailed presentation made by the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation.

The chief secretary directed STDC officials to arrange similar presentations at the Governor's House and the Chief Minister's House.

The meeting discussed a number of suggestions with regard to promoting the historical graveyard of Makli, Moenjodaro, Rani Kot and other places as tourist resorts.

Certain proposals pertained to highlighting the historical and cultural places of Sindh through postcards, postal stamps, models and photographs. The secretary for culture suggested integrating the resorts and huts with the STDC.

The chief secretary stressed on improving the administration and conditions of huts and resorts and specially asked for redressing the problems regarding booking office of resorts/huts at Karachi.

He also directed for taking steps for documentation of the Makli graveyard. The secretary for culture, Ms Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Secretary for Implementation, Nazar Hussain Mahar, Secretary for General Administration & Coordination, Abdul Qadir Mangi, MD of the STDC, Rabia Javeri Agha and other officials attended the meeting.—PPI
