Lehmann censured for obscenity
LONDON, July 9: Former Australia batsman Darren Lehmann was reprimanded by Yorkshire on Saturday for making ‘an obscene gesture’ in a Twenty20 match against local rivals Lancashire.
The incident occurred immediately after the 36-year-old Lehmann had caught Lancashire batsman Paul Horton in Friday's game.
“Yorkshire do not condone this behaviour and have met Darren to discuss the matter,” chief executive Stewart Regan told the club's Web site.
“Darren apologises for his behaviour which was a spur of the moment reaction after being barracked by the Lancashire fans.
The club have dealt with the matter internally and are confident it will not happen again.”
Regan said his club had already apologised to Lancashire.
“Yorkshire have contacted Lancashire and apologised to the committee, players and fans for this incident which was a black mark on an otherwise enjoyable evening.”
Yorkshire won the game by 15 runs.—Reuters
