ISLAMABAD, July 9: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Shafkat Saeed called on Vice-President and Head of Atomic Energy Agency of Iran Gholamreza Aghazadeh and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.

The ambassador briefed the Iranian vice-president on the current status of relations between the two countries, says a press release issued here on Sunday.

The two sides agreed to work towards fully realising the potential of relations that exist between the two brotherly countries.

Ambassador Saeed said that the Preferential Trade Agreement, which had completed procedural formalities, would boost the bilateral trade and help meet the target of $1 billion agreed upon by the two countries during the visit of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to Iran in February 2005.

The Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project was also discussed during the meeting.

Briefing the ambassador on his country’s nuclear programme, the Iranian official said that it was meant for peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The ambassador said Pakistan favoured peaceful resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue. — APP
