Doctor offers free service for medical research
WASHINGTON, July 9: Dr Salar Khan, a noted Pakistani American who recently received the US Federal Employee of the Year 2006 award for his professional excellence in the field of healthcare management, on Sunday said he would be willing to give free consultation in Pakistan to develop research programmes in clinical and basic medical science.
“My goal is to educate and train medical professionals in human subjects’ research protection programme, educate general public to raise awareness of their health and bring all medical professionals and drug companies together at one platform to provide a good healthcare delivery to every Pakistani,” he said in an interview.
Dr Khan is a medical administration specialist in Chicago.
He hoped to establish an institutional review board in Pakistan to provide ethical and scientific review and approval of human studies projects.
“This is the time to plan and start clinical and basic science medical research in Pakistan to benefit Pakistani nation,” he stated, adding that it would be his endeavour to help establish research institutions in Pakistan.
Dr Khan is in America for a decade. Asked to comment on his experience of the US society and Pakistani community’s efforts, he said “it’s an honest and fair society - always appreciating good work.”
Before coming to the United States, he had worked at the Baqai Medical College in Karachi as an associate professor in medicine and had also served in Saudi Arabia as chief of medicine.—APP
