KARACHI: Doctor to appear before court today

KARACHI, July 9: The doctor allegedly responsible for stealing a kidney from a patient during surgery at a hospital would be produced before a court on Monday, police said.

Dr Kashif Mateen has been accused of stealing a healthy kidney from a patient Mohammad Kashif during a surgical operation on May 7. Instead of removing gall bladder, Dr Mateen removed the kidney.Police said that Dr Mateen, arrested on Saturday, would be produced before a court on Monday where police requested the court to give Dr Mateen in police remand so that they could further investigate into the case.

During preliminary investigations, Dr Mateen told investigators that he removed the kidney by mistake. The suspected doctor was involving the investigators in technical matters of medicine.

The investigators said that they had requested the authorities for an expert doctor, who could assist police in questioning the doctor.
