Educators stage hunger strike

Published July 9, 2006

LAHORE, July 8: The Punjab Educators Association has rejected the government’s claim of offering 15 per cent dearness allowance to the Educators, alleging that they were being cheated.

The PEA leaders on Saturday staged a token hunger strike in front of the Civil Secretariat and stayed there for about two hours. They left on the intervention of police.

Speaking on the occasion, PEA leaders said the government was offering Rs700 to Rs1,000 more in the salary package of new educators than the one announced for their previously recruited colleagues.

The same amount was now being offered to the new educators under the title of ‘Dearness Allowance’, they said, terming it deception —Staff Reporter
