PESHAWAR, July 8: The adoption of tenure track statutes and approval of the system is in final stages with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), officials said at a meeting on Saturday.
A meeting of the Expert Committee of the NWFP Public Service Commission was held at the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology to review the existing selection system in public sector universities.
The meeting was presided over by the secretary of the Public Service Commission and attended by representatives of the public sector universities, including the vice-chancellors of Hazara, Malakand, Frontier Women, Gomal and Agricultural universities.
The meeting discussed issues relating to higher education and provision of autonomy to the universities in the selection process of staff and teachers.
The participants said that there should be more autonomy to the universities in the selection process.
They said that while recommending measures for giving the universities autonomy in the selection process, views of the member of the Public Service Commission should be considered so that objective decisions could be made.
It was recommended that the members of the selection boards should be involved in the selection process from the screening of the candidates to their short listing and interviewing.
