Scolari exit doubted

STUTTGART, July 7: The president of the Portuguese soccer federation doubted a report that coach Luiz Felipe Scolari plans to quit Portugal after the World Cup.

Portuguese sports daily Record said in Friday's edition that the 57-year-old Brazilian coach intended to tell Gilberto Madail he was leaving next Tuesday.

Scolari's current contract is due to expire at the end of the month.

The paper did not give its sources for the story.

“That's news to me,” Madail said. “I spoke to Mr Scolari and his agent around the time of the Portugal-France semi-final and he expressed a wish to stay on.”

Madail said he was aware that some clubs had made Scolari offers.

“Mr Scolari has given me no indication that he wants to leave. He’s said more than once that he feels good in Portugal and that he’d like to stay on.”—AP
