OIC likely to postpone summit

By Our Correspondent

RIYADH, July 7: The next OIC summit, scheduled to be held in Dakar, Senegal next year, could be deferred until 2008, Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio was quoted as saying after meeting his Saudi counterpart.

Senegal has mooted the idea of postponing the summit because of extensive road rehabilitation in its capital, Dakar.

A Senegalese foreign ministry statement said Saudi Arabia had expressed its support to Senegal’s proposal.

The postponement will give more time to the OIC to implement the plan of action adopted during last year’s summit.
