KANDAHAR, July 6: Afghan and foreign forces killed eight Taliban fighters and arrested 11 others in separate incidents overnight as a major crackdown pushed on, the army and police said on Thursday.
Four militants were killed and three captured late on Wednesday in Surai district of Zabul province, provincial police chief Nur Mohammad Paktine told AFP.
Another two were killed and three arrested in the province’s restive Shinkay district, he said.
In Paktika, two Taliban were killed in a two-hour exchange of fire that erupted after a band of fighters attacked an army patrol near the border with Pakistan, a regional corps commander told AFP. Five were arrested, said commander Akram Samai.—AFP
