ISLAMABAD, July 6: Dozens of people suffered bruises when police resorted to baton charge to control an angry mob of shopkeepers at Bhara Kahu here on Thursday.
However, no serious injury was reported in the incident.
The incident occurred when an angry mob of shopkeepers put up resistance against the Capital Development Authority staff, who had come to demolish illegal structures. The shopkeepers tried to stop the CDA and police personnel from demolishing their shops.
The authority’s anti-encroachment department personnel along with heavy contingent of police bulldozed 100 shops and seized items and valuables. About two truckloads of goods, which remained undamaged during the action, were removed to the CDA office. The CDA staff also warned another 300 shopkeepers to close their illegal shops with next 24 hours.— Staff Reporter
