KARACHI, July 6: The Sindh education department has constituted a high-powered committee to rationalise fees structure and categorisation of private schools as per their academic standards.

The decision was taken on the directives of the Sindh chief minister, who issued these orders after concerns expressed by various sections of the society and parents against charging of exorbitant fees by private educational institutes of the province.Gen (retd) SP Shahid of the Citizen Foundation had been assigned as the chairman of the committee in question with Prof Anita Ghulam Ali as managing director, Sindh Education Foundation and special education secretary as its members.

The other members of committee are Ms Zubaida Dossal and Dr Mohammad Memon, Director, Agha Khan Institute for Educational Development, director private schools, education department and a representative from Parents Teachers Association.

The Term of References of committee would be to identify and develop criteria wherein private schools be placed in various categories in accordance with their faculty position, physical facilities, area of schools/accommodation, facilities being provided to students, fees charged, results achieved, etc.

The committee would also develop a plan for the implementation of the decision/policy.—PPI
