KARACHI, July 6: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, declaring emergency in works and services, health, fire brigade and other concerned departments in view of expected rains has cancelled leaves of all staff and called them to duty.
He announced this while chairing a meeting to review arrangements made by the city government to meet any eventuality during rains.
Officials told the nazim that the city government had finalised arrangements to meet any untoward incident during downpours.
Large suction pumps and other necessary machinery have been arranged to drain rainwater from ongoing uplift projects, roads and low-lying areas. Emergency centres have also been set up where officers and staff are discharging duties in three shifts, each of eight hours.
The city government has set up more than 15 rain emergency centres at various localities in the metropolis. Works & Services department has divided the city into four zones and made District Officers (DOs) their in charge, said a CDGK statement.
Meanwhile, the town administrations of all the 18 towns are taking necessary measures to cope with any untoward incident during the monsoon. In this regard, special complaint centres have also been established to work round-the-clock so as to facilitate the citizens.The town administrations have notified the locations of complaint centres along with telephone numbers. Each town has established a central control room which will work round-the-clock.
At these emergency centres, the sanitary and sewerage staff besides responsible officials of departments of parks, building and roads, mechanical and electrical will remain present along with necessary equipment including open trucks, tractors, dewatering pumps etc to address rain-related public complaints.
The respective town nazims have directed their departments to maintain close coordination so that any emergency could be dealt with in time. The TMOs have been directed to ensure that the dewatering pumps are kept in order to drain out water from low-lying areas and that it is not allowed to remain stagnant on roads and streets.
ORANGI: Town Nazim Abdul Haq on Thursday visited the various rain complaint centres of the town and directed the staff concerned to take all possible steps to avoid any mishap and to keep these centres functional 24 hours. He said that negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.
Later, he chaired a meeting to review the relief activity plans. TMO Shamimuddin, Naib Nazim Shahid Bashir and others officers attended the meeting.
The meeting was told that foolproof arrangements had been made in the town and a complaint counter was setup in each UC office.

GULSHAN: The town administration in view of expected rains declared 24-hour rain emergency and directed the rain complaints cells to remain fully alert.
A press release issued here said that under the supervision of TMO Matanat Ali Khan staffs of the departments concerned had been divided into shifts, while TOIS Shafiqur Rehman was made their in-charge.
Moreover, the DTOs of the departments concerned have been appointed as in-charges of the emergency gangs of their departments.
On the other hand, relief medical camps, under the supervision of the TMA doctors would also be set up at different places to provide emergency first-aid treatment to the affected people. The drain-clearing work in the town is completed by 70 per cent.The lists of emergency telephone numbers of departments concerned had been displayed at the complaint centres, UCs and sub-complaint centres.The telephone number of the central complaints cell is 9230355-59.
JAMSHED: The town nazim, Mohammad Arif Ajakia declared rain emergency in the town and cancelled leaves of all staff to cop with any untoward situation during rains.
In this regard a meeting was summoned here on Thursday with Arif Ajakia in the chair. Residents of Jamshed Town can lodge their complaints with the central rain emergency centre on following phone numbers: 4538534, 4324620, 0300-9255862 (DTO Solid Waste), 0300-2734260 (ATO Solid Waste), 0300-2161481 (Motor vehicle inspector) and 0300-2774795 (DTO Parks).
LIAQUATABAD: The town administration have declared rain emergency in the town and cancelled leaves of the staff concerned, as per the directives of Town Nazim Osama Qadri.
A press release issued here said that a rain emergency centre had been established at the central office of the town. The telephone numbers of this centre are 6608587 and 6687021. Necessary staff and equipment have been provided to the centre.
LANDHI: According to a Landhi Town spokesperson, all the 14 rain complaint centres have been made functional including the one newly established in the Landhi Industrial Area.
