ISLAMABAD, July 5: The federal government has issued for the first time a ‘red book’ containing information about 162 most-wanted terrorists, including the four allegedly involved in an abortive attempt on the life of Gen Pervez Musharraf.
So far provincial governments have been issuing ‘red books’ every year.
The book has been compiled by FIA’s special investigation group (SIG) on the basis of information provided by federal and provincial intelligence agencies and police.
The government had announced Rs65 million head-money on 66 of the 162 most-wanted terrorists. The highest head-money, Rs10 million, is for Matiur Rehman alias Ustad Talha, involved in an attempt on President Musharraf’s life.
According to the ‘red book’, the wanted men belong to banned outfits like Lashkar-i-Tayyaba, Sippah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, Tehrik-i-Jaffariya Pakistan and Sippah-i- Muhammad Pakistan and Bugti, Magsi and Mari Tribes.
83 belong to Punjab, 29 to Sindh, 11 to the NWFP, 37 to Balochistan and two to the Northern Areas.
The total head-money announced by Punjab government on 42 terrorists is Rs49.8 million, by the Sindh government on 14 terrorists is Rs9.5 million, by the NWFP government on eight terrorists is Rs2.6 million while Rs3 million head-money had been announced on two terrorists belonging to the Northern Areas.
According to the red book, no head-money has so far been announced on terrorists belonging to Balochistan.
According to the book, Matiur Rehman, 32, a resident of Multan, belongs to the SSP and he also has affiliation with the Harkatul Jehad Al-Islami and carries Rs10 million reward on his head.
Mansoor Chhota, 34, a resident of Karachi, is another accused in the case about attempt on president’s life, and the SSP activist carries a Rs5 million head-money. The third accused is Umar Aqdas, an SSP activist from Sheikhupura, who carries Rs5 million head-money. SSP activist Qari Ahsanul Haq, 26, of Bahawalpur, is the fourth accused.
