KARACHI, July 5: The weather turned pleasant on Wednesday evening, when it drizzled in different localities of the city.
The meteorological office said the drizzle was caused in some localities of the city by the monsoon system entering the region.
Residents of North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Tariq Road, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Korangi and its surrounding areas told Dawn that their localities witnessed drizzle on Wednesday evening.
Following the light drizzle, a large number of people thronged recreational places, including Seaview and Clifton beaches.
The meteorological department has forecast cloudy weather with chances of thunderstorm/rains during the next two days.
More light and moderate rains have been forecast in different localities of the city on Thursday. The maximum temperature in the city will range between 34 and 35 degrees Centigrade, added the forecast.
The met office warned fishermen to take special care while fishing on Thursday and Friday due to gusty winds, add agencies.
On Wednesday night, the city government put the KWSB and other city government departments on alert in view of expected rains.
According to a city government handout, all the departments are taking measures to set up rain emergency centres and ensure provision of necessary machinery and manpower to them.
The nazim has already declared Nazim Camp Office, DCO Camp Office and City Government Helpline 134 as emergency centres.
In case of any exigency during rains, citizens can contact DCO control room over telephone numbers 9203443 and 9205605, Helpline 134 and Fire Brigade Control Room 16 besides phone numbers 9230060, 9232462, 9232416 and 9232455.Contact numbers of other emergency centres are 9215007-8 (Fire Headquarters), 9246268 and 9276316 (Gulistan-i-Mustafa Fire Station), 5015885 and 5015388 (Landhi Fire Station), 2528090 and 2527521 (Lyari Fire Station).
All these centres are equipped with suction motors, rescue boats and other essential machinery and gears, including wireless system.
