By Baqir Sajjad Syed

ISLAMABAD, July 4: Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) on Tuesday allocated occupational groups to 160 successful candidates of the Competitive Examination 2005 against 185 sanctioned seats, leaving behind 25 vacant positions.

The government had this year sanctioned 169 vacancies, while 16 seats were carried over from last year, thus bringing the total to 185.

FPSC, in accordance with the instructions of Establishment Division, included fraction in the final determination of the quotas for different provinces, an official told Dawn. The issue of inclusion of fraction or otherwise had delayed the group allocation this year.

An important feature of this year’s allocation was that no one from AJK qualified for appointment and all their five seats remained unfilled. Besides AJK, Sindh Urban’s 76 per cent of the allocated seats remained vacant.

Two hundred seventy seven candidates had cleared the written examination, while one was rejected. Of the 276 who appeared for viva, 51 failed and one did not appear before the panel for interview.

A total of 224 finally qualified for group allocation. The tally of the qualified candidates, the official said, included 26 repeaters, who had previously qualified CSS, but were desirous of changing groups.

As per the distribution of 185 seats according to the provincial quotas, 18 were allocated for filling through merit, 87 went to Punjab, 25 to Sindh rural, 17 to Sindh urban, 21 to NWFP, 06 to Balochistan, six to NA/Fata, and five to AJK.

The further division of each quota into provincial groups showed 18 merit seats being divided with Pakistan Audit and Accounts Group (PAAS) getting 03; Customs and Excise Group (CEG), 01; District Management Group (DMG), 04; Foreign Service (FSP), 03; Income Tax Group (ITG), 03; Information Group (IG), 01; Police Service (PSP), 02; Postal, 01.

The 87 Punjab seats were also divided with PAAS getting 15; CEG, 05; DMG, 19; FSP, 12; ITG, 16; IG, 05; PSP, 09; Postal, 04; and Railways (RCTG), 02.

The Sindh rural quota of 25 seats has been further divided into PAAS, 07; Commerce and Trade Group (CTG), 01; CEG, 01; DMG 04; FSP, 02; ITG, 03; IG, 03; PSP, 02; and Postal, 02.

The group allocation for 17 Sindh urban seats saw PAAS getting 05; CTG, 01; DMG, 03; FSP, 02; ITG, 03; IG, 01; PSP, 01; Postal, 01.

For NWFP, the seats for different groups were PAAS, 03; CEG, 02; DMG, 04; FSP, 03; ITG, 03; IG, 02; PSP, 02; Postal, 01; and RCTG, 01.

The six seats for Balochistan were further distributed with PAAS getting 01; DMG, 01; FSP, 01; ITG, 01; PSP, 01; Postal, 01. Likewise, out of 6 seats for NA/Fata, PAAS got 01; CEG, 01; DMG, 01; FSP, 01; ITG, 01; and PSP, 01.

For AJK, where all 05 seats remained vacant, the group allocation was PAAS, 02; CTG, 01; ITG, 01; and IG, 01.

Twenty five of the 185 seats distributed on provincial/regional quotas remained unfilled because there was no suitably qualified candidate from the respective regions/provinces.

The 25 seats that remained vacant included Sindh rural 7 (PAAS, 1; CTG, 1; IG, 3; Postal, 02), Sindh Urban 13 (PAAS, 5; CTG, 1; FSP, 2; ITG, 3; IG, 1; Postal, 1), and AJK 5 (PAAS, 2; CTG, 1; ITG, 1; and IG, 1.
