KARACHI, July 4: The Sunni Rehbar Council has expressed concern over failure of police to arres perpetrators of the Nishtar Park tragedy and make its investigation public. At a press conference on Tuesday at Darul Uloom Naimia, the council chairman, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, urged the President to make the progress of the probe public, otherwise they would be justified to assume that the government wanted to put the tragedy to the back burner.
He recalled that on last May 18, the chief of a sensitive agency had informed the council delegation that investigation of the tragedy had almost completed and within eight to 10 days, the accused would be given in the judicial custody with proofs and all facts would be made public.
Mufti Rehman said he had also written a letter to the President in this regard three days back but no positive results had been achieved, so far. This inordinate delay was the cause of unrest among Ahle Sunnat.
The council chief also pointed out that workers were being arrested from different parts of the city and were implicated in fake cases. Condemning the arrest of its workers, the council demanded release of innocent persons.
Recalling that in North Waziristan, Pir Baba Abdul Rehman and his son was killed recently by terrorists, he demanded arrest of their killers and exemplary punishment to them.
