KARACHI, July 4: The Sindh High Court was informed on Tuesday that suspected gangster Abdul Rehman was not arrested or detained by the Sindh police. Sindh police officer Dilawar Hussain Shah, in his comments, told a division bench of the SHC, dealing the matter regarding illegal detention of Rehman, that the detainee was wanted in as many as 65 criminal cases, registered in police stations of Lyari, Malir, SITE and Saddar towns of Karachi.
Ms Zubeda, maternal aunt of Rehman, alleged that Rehman was arrested from Quetta on June 18 with his brother-in-law Wajid, daughter Atiqa, 11, and his son Atique, 8, and he was being illegally detained by the law enforcement agency.
She submitted that Rehman was shifted to undisclosed location in Islamabad by the LEA without producing him in any court of law and obtaining his remand.
The comments from the Sindh home department and the interior ministry have, so far, not been filed by provincial and federal law officers and they sought further time.
The adjournment request was vehemently opposed by petitioner's counsel Omer Sial, who submitted that sufficient time had been allowed to respondents for filing comments. He opposed the long adjournment in the case.
The bench, comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro, adjourning the matter for July 5 (Wednesday) directed the respondents to file comments.
