LAHORE, July 2: A gang of 15 Afghan robbers looted Rs3.5 million from a bank inside a textile mill in Sattukatla on Sunday. It was the second such strike by the same gang within a week.

Police said the gunmen stormed into Nadia Textile Mill and held up guards, tied them up and locked them in a room. The intruders after not finding enough booty in the mill broke open the bank on the premises and collected Rs3.5 million. They took away the money and weapons of the guards.

The same gang had struck a textile mill in Chuhng on June 28, and had taken away Rs2 million and a car.

City police chief Additional IGP Khwaja Khalid Farooq set up two teams headed by the CIA police SP and Sadar division investigation police SP to detect the gang members. He also ordered them to draw sketches of the gang members.

CIA police SP Masood Aziz after visiting the scene of crime said that some clues had been found that might lead to the arrest of the miscreants.

“I am hopeful there will be a breakthrough soon.” Operations and investigation police DIGs also visited the crime scene and gathered evidence.

ARRESTED: The city operations police claimed on Sunday to have arrested six members of two alleged gangs of robbers.

Operations police DIG Aamir Zulfikar said three members of a gang, Sajjad, Tariq and Asif, were rounded up in Baghbanpura. Eight stolen cell phones and weapons were seized from them.

He said three more members of the other gang, Waqas, Shaukat and Arshad, were arrested in Nishtar Colony. Four stolen cell phones, Rs25,000 and weapons were recovered from them.

He claimed at least 59 crimes against property were traced with the help of the arrested men.
