ISLAMABAD July 2: A meeting of leading ulema belonging to various schools of thought was held here on Sunday which discussed ways and means to protect the Hudood law against being amended.
President Musharraf had presided over a high level meeting on Saturday and directed the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) to propose appropriate amendments to the Hudood laws by seeking consensus of majority of ulema.
The meeting of the ulema held at residence of MMA MNA Maulana Abdul Malik decided to hold a national convention for the protection of Hudood laws on July 6, in a G-6 Islamabad mosque in which leading ulema and political leaders will participate.
Through a resolution the meeting demanded reconstitution of CII by disbanding the present one. Besides it demanded appointment of a non-controversial person at the federal shariat court.
It was decided that Mufti Munibur Rahman president Tanzeem Al-Madaris Ahle Sunnat Pakistan, Maulana Qari Muhammad Hanif Jallendhri nazim ala Wafaqul Madaris Arabia, Dr Mohammad Sarfaraz Naeemi nazim ala Tanzeemul Madaris, Maulana Hussainuddin Shah patron Tanseemul Madaris, Maulana Syed Naseeb Ali Shah MNA, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed deputy parliamentary leader MMA, Liaqat Baloch deputy secretary general MMA, Qari Saeedur Rahman Jamiat Ahle Sunnat, Maulana Abdul Aziz Hanif secretary general markazi Jamiat Ahle Haidth, Maulana Abdul Jalil Naqvi Islami Tehrik Pakistan, Dr Ataur Rahman MNA and others would be invited to participate.
