KARACHI: Road project in Gulshan inaugurated


KARACHI, July 2: The Nazim of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town, Wasay Jalil, on Saturday inaugurated road construction work at the Limun Goth in UC-11 of the town.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that 130,000 sq-ft of roads would be constructed at a cost of Rs7 million besides undertaking flooring of the inner streets.

The Naib Nazim, Shoaib Akhtar, TMO Matanat Ali Khan, UC-11 Nazim Muhib Fatmi and others were also present.

In the meanwhile, Mr Jalil asked the KESC to take immediate measures to end power breakdowns in the area, ensure attendance of staff at its service and complaint centres, and repair faulty underground cables so that the citizens could get relief.

During a meeting with the KESC GM (Network), Aashiq Mughal, and other officials, the town nazim said that underground electricity cables often developed faults due to their deteriorated condition, which resulted in loadshedding.

He also called for better coordination between the KESC and the town officials for resolution of persisting problem.

Mr Mughal assured the town nazim that loadshedding would be controlled soon and staff attendance would be ensured at the centres.

The nazim appealed to people to avoid unnecessary consumption of electricity.

SHAH FAISAL: The Nazim of Shah Faisal Town, Muhammad Imran, also resented long power cuts and water shortages and asked both the KESC and the KWSB officials to rectify the situation.Chairing a meeting of town officials, he termed the persisting power crisis in the city as a conspiracy.

He directed the water board’s MD to immediately install four heavy generators at the water supply station in the town and appoint four sub-engineers, as announced by him (MD) during his recent visit to the town.

Imran also called for provision of the town’s share of water from the K-III project to the town.

ORANGI TOWN: The city government will undertake a project worth Rs2.9 million for improving the sewerage system of Orangi in the current fiscal year.

According to the city government on Saturday, the contract has been awarded to a construction firm, which will immediately start work on the project and complete it in nine months.

The project has been initiated on the directives of the City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal.

The contractor will have to pay a fine of Rs1,500 per day if he fails to meet the deadline.

It may be recalled that the city government has started plugging leakages in water supply lines and replacing and repairing of sewerage lines in all towns of the city at a cost of Rs900 million with each town getting Rs50 million.
