By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 1: Police arrested a man for his involvement in the murder of a policeman here on Saturday. Police said that they had arrested Jansher Khan and recovered a TT pistol from his possession during a raid in Frontier Colony.

SITE Town Police Officer Javed Akbar said that the suspect was involved in killing ASI Nadeem near Banaras Chowk on June 26.

He said that three people of that area had identified Jansher Khan, who was already involved in a number of cases.

The TPO said that Jansher Khan was basically a mobile phone snatcher. He tried to snatch the cellphone from ASI Nadeem, who recognised him. As the ASI tried to arrest him, Jansher Khan fired a bullet which proved fatal for Nadeem, he added.

Five policemen were killed in eight days and 10 in the month of June including the killing of the Deputy Superintendent Jail along with four of his associates.

The five policemen killed and one surviving the attack last week belonged to the ranks of sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector and constable. As many as 27 policemen have been killed in the city since January this year, according to police statistics.

The statistics provided by the police department showed that as many as 20 policemen were killed in 2005, 26 in 2004, 19 in 2003 and 17 in year 2002.
