KARACHI: PPP activist acquitted in camps firing case

KARACHI, July 1: An additional district and sessions court acquitted on Saturday a worker of the Pakistan People’s Party in the MQM camps firing case.
The judge exonerated Bilal Shaikh, the last accused in the case, for want of incriminating evidence. The case was registered against several PPP leaders and workers for killing 25 workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Aug 22, 1999, during attacks on the camps set up by the MQM to welcome party chief, Altaf Hussain, on his return from London.
Earlier, the court acquitted other accused, including Asif Ali Zardari, Qaim Ali Shah, Amir Haider Kazmi, Munawwar Soharwardy, Manzoor Wassan, Shahnawaz Junejo, Aneesur Rehman, Hamid Chand Mian and Ali Sunara in the case.
