KARACHI: Fish harbour renovation by Aug 15


KARACHI, July 1: A meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, Fazalur Rehman, extensively reviewed reforms at the Karachi Fish Harbour.

It was informed that renovation of the chilling room at the harbour had been completed and ongoing construction work of the K-2 Auction Hall would be completed by August 15, a statement said on Saturday.

All unserviceable boats were stated to be in the process of being removed from the channel and all outstanding dues of the Fishermen Cooperative Society and that of the KFHA would be cleared within minimum possible time.

Moreover installation of electronic gadgets for production of ice flakes along with the availability of fresh and clean water through water tanks were said to be materialized by August 15.

The chief secretary, on the occasion, nominated the Provincial Secretary for Implementation, Nazar Hussain Mehar, and Secretary Fisheries Dr Siddiq Memon as the focal persons responsible for developing coordination with different concerned organizations.

The meeting was also attended by the UNIDO Chief Technical Adviser, Zawdu Felleke, Sindh Secretary for Implementation, Sindh Secretary for Fisheries, Director General, Marine Fisheries Department, Commodore Qamar Raza, Managing Director, KFHA, Dr Nawaz Baloch, Representatives of the Fisheries Cooperative Society, and other concerned institutions.

The meeting decided to hold its next session next week to deliberate upon other pending issues.—APP
