SHEIKHUPURA, June 30: The National Commission for Human Development has joined hands with the district government to improve the basic education and health facilities at district, tehsil, union council and village levels.

This was stated by NCHD district general manager Tauseef Ahmad Khan while talking to District Nazim Sahibzada Mian Jalil Ahmad Sharaqpuri at the district government complex here.

Among other participants in the meeting were EDO (community development) Imtiaz Ahmad Malik, EDO (literacy) Mian Muhammad Ashraf and some union council nazims.

The NCHD GM informed the participants about the commission’s performance in several important spheres, including education and health. He said eight computer technology learning centres had been established in the country where 921 people had been imparted education.

As for the universal primary education in 17 districts, he said the enrolment rate had gone up from 25 per cent to 80 per cent and the drop-out rate had been reduced. He said the NCHD had also opened up 9,200 feeder schools and trained 19,000 government teachers in the UPE process.

He said 16,492 adult literacy centres were imparting education to 393,670 graduates, 86 per cent of them women.

In the health sector, he said, the primary healthcare extension programme was serving 1.1 million people every month in 55 sub-areas in 13 districts. A large number of children were being given services for immunization from diseases and malnutrition.

Around 2.8 million women had been trained during the national ORS campaign while 38,314 teachers had been trained through the school health programme in 17 districts.

On this occasion, nazim Mian Jalil filled the form of NCHD’s as a volunteer and appreciated the services it has been offering to the people all over the country.
