CII stance on Hudood law hailed

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 30: The Chairman, All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA), Shahbaz Bhatti on Friday described Council of Islamic Ideology’s (CII) recommendation to amend the discriminatory Hudood Ordinance a step in the right direction.

The chairman demanded that the discriminatory laws should not be applied when minorities or non-Muslims were put on trial.

In a statement issued here Mr Bhatti demanded that all minorities facing charges under Hudood Ordinance and serving their times should be tried according to laws applicable to them.

Mr Bhatti said that the CII which only represented Muslims should be converted into an Inter-Faith Council, giving representation to all schools of thought.
