Harassment of JWP leader condemned

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 29: Senator Farooq Naek of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) has condemned the hounding of former Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) Senator Amanullah Kanrani by state agencies ever since he was forcibly disembarked from a PIA flight on Wednesday on way to London for participating in the ARD moot on July 2.

Mr Kanrani, who had been nominated by JWP President Nawab Akbar Bugti to represent the party in the ARD meeting in London, was not allowed by the regime to take his flight on Wednesday after he had been issued the boarding card.

Mr Kanrani was in Islamabad on Thursday to appear before the Supreme Court in some cases when he found himself chased by gun wielding security sleuths in three official vehicles in the federal capital. The JWP leader later submitted an application in the apex court for the protection of his fundamental rights urging that his life and honour be protected from the intelligence agencies.

In a statement on Thursday, PPP Senator Farooq Naek said it amounted to violating the fundamental rights of Mr Kanrani to move around freely for the performance of his professional duties.
