Israeli attack condemned

LAHORE, June 29: The Pakistan Workers Federation on Thursday staged a demonstration here to condemn the Israeli attack on Palestinians and press for repeal in amendments to the Factories Act for enhancing the working hours and authorising employers to make the women work till 10pm.

The workers, led by Federation secretary-general Khurshid Ahmed and other leaders, marched on Nisbet Road with banners and placards on which they had written slogans against Israeli attack and amendments to the Factories Act. They also staged a demonstration at the Lakshmi Chowk.

Addressing workers at Lakshmi Chowk, Federation leaders said that an emergency session of the UN Security Council should be convened to take notice of Israeli barbarism, as Muslims around the world were concerned about the excesses being committed against Palestinians.

They said amendments to the Factories Act were against International Labour Organisation conventions and could result in imposition of a ban on exports to western countries. —Reporter
