KARACHI, June 29: The municipal administrations of five more towns have announced their budgets for the financial year 2006-07.
North Nazimabad Town’s budget has an outlay of Rs491.695 million, indicating a negligible surplus of Rs2.406 million. Nazim Mumtaz Hameed of North Nazimabad Town unfolded the details of the budget for the next financial year budgets at a news conference on Thursday.
Highlighting salient features of North Nazimabad Town’s budget for the fiscal 2006-07, Mumtaz Hameed said Rs249.500 million which comes to 51 per cent of total expenditures have been earmarked for development activities as against Rs239.789 (49 pc) allocated for non-development expenditures.
The town’s receipts during 2006-07 have been estimated at Rs491.695 million which includes Rs220 million matching grant in lieu of octroi from Sindh government, Rs120 million as its share of property from the city government, Rs2.500 million share from building plan, Rs25 million share of conservancy from CDGK, Rs25 million advertisement share from the CDGK, Rs60 million income from transfer of immovable property and Rs37.195 million to be generated through the Town’s own resources.
Referring to development expenditures, he said Rs242.150 million would be spent on improvement and repair of roads, streets, footpaths, parks, playgrounds, streetlights, building and storm-water drains, besides Rs7.350 million have been allocated for capital works.
About non-development expenditures, he said Rs146.363 million have been earmarked for establishment, Rs83.312 million for contingencies and Rs10.113 million for maintenance.
LANDHI TOWN: A Rs465.5 million budget of Landhi Town for the next financial year was announced by the Town Nazim, Mohammad Ismail Quraishi, on Thursday.
The budget with a total development outlay, including both the development and non-development expenditures, of Rs465.5 million is surplus by Rs1.087 million.
Giving details of the budget, the Nazim said its revenue receipts during fiscal 2006-7 included Rs260 million to be received from the Sindh government as matching grant, Rs35 million from the CDGK under the head of property tax, Rs20 million as SDSSP grant and Rs55.5 to be generated through the Town’s own resources.
Non-development expenditures include Rs157.22 million for establishment, Rs 43.77 for contingencies, Rs10 million as electricity charges, Rs49.9 for repair and maintenance, Rs30 million for development and payment of outstanding dues.
KORANGI TOWN: Korangi Town’s budget stood at Rs419.58 million, indicating a surplus of Rs2.14 million.
Unfolding the details of Korangi Town’s budget, Nazim Mohammad Arif Khan, advocate, said that a record amount of Rs235.44 million has been earmarked for development works for the fiscal 2006-07. This includes construction and improvement of roads, footpaths, parapet wall and culverts, construction/improvement and cleaning of nullahs, sewerage, water, sanitation projects, provision of street lights, development of parks, nurseries and playgrounds, purchasing vehicles, tools and asphalt plant machinery, etc.
About the Town’s major sources of income, he said Rs240 million matching grant would be received from Sindh government, Rs65 million under the head of property tax, conservancy and other charges from CDGK while the Town would generate Rs113.34 through its own resources which include regulation fee, sales of tender documents, registration and renewal of contractors, asphalt plant charges, road cutting charges, parks and nurseries, etc.
SADDR TOWN: A Rs700.69 million budget of Saddar Town for fiscal 2006-07 was announced on Wednesday by the Town Nazim Mohammad Dilawar.
Having a development outlay of Rs212.9 million, the budget is surplus by Rs3.714 million.
Highlighting the salient features of the budget, Mr Dilawar said town’s receipts for the next financial year include Rs543.6 million to be received from both the Sindh and city governments under the heads of matching grant, share from property tax and conservancy charges, etc while the Town will generate Rs66.2 million through its own resources.
Meanwhile, the budget session of the Malir Town council was held under the chairmanship of Naib Nazim Sharafat Ali on Thursday in which the town nazim Ansar Sheikh presented a Rs 380.21million budget.
