KARACHI, June 29: The Patients' Welfare Association (PTA) earned an amount to the tune of Rs1.03 million after an annual bake sale at the Civil Hospital (CHK) on Thursday, said an organiser.
The PTA, which is voluntarily run by students of the Dow Medical College, caters to the needs of the CHK patients in specific and other needy patients as well through its various projects.
The "Bake Sale Mela" was inaugurated by the chairman of the CHK' board of governors, Abu Shamim Arif, at around 11.20am. A couple of TV artists also visited the exhibition, which was introduced as an annual fund raiser event about 17 years back, added an event coordinator.
In all 17 stalls of cake and breads, eatables, home made items, balloons and flowers were set up. We raised a fund of Rs20,000 by selling the cakes, while generated an amount of one million from banners and other displays sponsored by different firms.
Talking about patient services, the coordinator said that at present about 200 CHK patients and other needy persons were provided with blood bags every day, while PTA also run thalassaemia and TB follow-up clinics at the CHK.
