KARACHI, June 29: The city government will be spending more than Rs3 billion which is eight per cent of the CDGK’s total budget for the fiscal 2006-07 for numerous health care schemes in the city.
This also reflects 90 per cent increase in the budgetary allocations for the health sector as compared to the corresponding period in 2005-06. This was stated by the city nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, at a ceremony to deliver an ambulance to Landhi Prison at Civic Centre here on Thursday.
He said that the Haq Parast leadership in a few months time had paid optimum attention towards health care needs of the masses.
The nazim said that the city government was also encouraging other organisations so that facilities may reach to the maximum numbers of people and realising the non-availability of an ambulance at the Landhi Prison, it has been donated to help carry patients in need to the hospital, without any unnecessary delay, he added.
During the first quarter of the next fiscal the ongoing expansion work at Qatar Hospital - Orangi, Sindh Hospital, Liaquatabad No 10, Heart Unit at Korangi, Five Hospital, besides the city government facilities at Gadap City, Metroville, Gulshan-i-Iqbal - 14 A will also be completed, Mr Kamal informed.
He said that an amount of Rs400 million had been estimated for the completion work and during 2006–07 new health care projects would be initiated at Landhi/Korangi, Usman Goth, Bin Qasim extension, Ibrahim Hyderi, Laasi Goth, Shershah, Keamari, Hashim Goth, Mondal Goth, Azam Basti, Saidabad and Baldia Town. The nazim announced that during the next fiscal year five morgues would also be constructed in the city against an estimated cost of Rs25 million.—APP
