KARACHI, June 27: Top seed and defending champion, Yasir Khan, justified his ranking when he claimed the men’s singles crown in the 16th Talent Hunt Sindh ranking tennis tournament, ending the pretension of second seed, Danish Ahmed, 6-2 7-6 (5) at CDGK Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Yasir, 17, who went to Taiwan with Pakistan Davis Cup team as observer earlier this year, raced on win the opener 6-2 with ease as his opponent conceded points due to consistent double faults.

With victory around the corner, Yasir could not maintain the pace and committed several unforced errors only to see Danish taking 5-3 lead.

Yasir of Modern Club stormed back into the game twice first to level 5-5 and then 6-6 as the set entered into tie-breaker.

He wrapped up the set 7-6 (5) to win the match which lasted for about one and a half hour.

Former national hard court champion and top seed, Sehr Khwaja, walked away with the women’s singles title when she breezed past Eman Malik 6-2, 6-0.The latter had some consolation as she picked up the girls U-17 singles crown disposing off Mehak Tanveer 6-0, 6-0.

Ever improving, Zuhair Raza, ended with a double crown. He handed a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Mohammad Mustafa Jamali to grab the boys U-15 title.

Later he teamed up with the latter to edge out the pair of Abdul Rehman-Muneeb Khan 6-2, 6-3 to annex boys U-15 doubles event.

Abbas pocketed the juniors U-17 singles crown when he was home 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-2 against Zuhair in the all-brothers final.

Unseeded Abdul Rehman toppled defending champion and top seed Mustafa Zaidi in three gruelling sets 7-5, 1-6 6-3 to win the boys U-13 crown.
