HYDERABAD: SU delegation to attend Mumbai University celebrations

HYDERABAD, June 27: The University of Sindh has decided to send a delegation to participate in sesquicentennial celebrations of the University of Mumbai on July 18. The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee headed by eminent scholar Dr N.A. Baloch on Monday.

The committee was formed by vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui in response to a letter by Mumbai University vice-chancellor Dr Vijay Khole about participation of the Sindh University in sesquicentennial celebrations of the Mumbai University.

The meeting noted that the participation of Sindh University in celebrations would contribute enhancing in socio-cultural, educational relations and interaction with India.

The meeting proposed to the university authorities to organise a seminar on the “Role of Bombay University in promoting higher education in Sindh” in Mumbai and suggested to invite Sindh minister for education to inaugurate the seminar.

It proposed that university authorities should send invitation to the Mumbai University authorities to nominate a representative for attending the seminar.

It recommended that a delegation of scholars headed by Sindh University vice-chancellor should participate in the main event of celebrations of University of Mumbai.

It decided that an exhibition of different documents, booklets, circulars, copies of results of Mumbai University, copy of certificate of B.A (Hons)-1st class, third position awarded to Dr N.A. Baloch, photographs of various schools which were affiliated with the Mumbai university would be organised in connection with the celebrations.

The meeting formed a three-member committee comprising Dr Habibullah Siddiqui, Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar and Shaukat Shoro to collect documents related to the Bombay University from various high schools and colleges in Sindh.

APTUO: The chairman of All-Pakistan Trade Unions Organisation, Mr Bashir Ahmed, hailed the Supreme Court decision declaring the privatisation of Pakistan Steel Mills as null and void and demanded the government renationalise all the assets privatised in the past.

Mr Ahmed said while speaking to union leaders on Monday that national assets worth billions of rupees had been disposed of at a pittance.
