LARKANA, June 27: Farmers took out a procession in Shahdadkot on Tuesday in protest against acute shortage of water in Khirthar canal, SKT and Saifullah branches. The farmers carried banners and playcards and chanted slogans against irrigation authorities. The procession was organised by the Sindh Abadgar Board.

SAB Qambar-Shahdadkot president Ishaque Mughiri, Niaz Khoso, Khalid Umar Khoso and Ali Gohar Magsi said that the irrigation department’s rotation plan had failed completely to protect paddy crop and caused to delay cultivation season.

The Saifullah branch which has the capacity to discharge 1,800 cusecs water had only 150 cusecs, said Mr Mughiri.

He said that Balochistan was getting eight feet water from the Grang regulator (the distribution point of Sindh and Balochistan) while the Saifullah Magsi branch had only four inch water.—BoC
