Dust storm, rain hit parts of Sindh

HYDERABAD, June 26: A heavy dust storm followed by a massive power breakdown hit Hyderabad and its adjoining districts on Sunday night. The area also received light rain.

The power supply to different areas was gradually restored after midnight.

The storm uprooted billboards and tress in different areas. Hesco attributed power breakdown to falling of trees and signboards over conductors.

The rains broke a long spell of sizzling heat in the area where temperature was recorded at 46 degree Celsius on Saturday and 41 degree centigrade on Sunday.

On Monday, mercury dropped to 38 degree centigrade.

SANGHAR: People, specially the farming community, heaved a sigh of relief as the rains fulfilled water shortage.

Cotton, sugarcane, chilli and banana crops will benefit from the rain.

The power supply was suspended with the first drop of rain and was restored at about 3:30am after about eight hours.

BADIN: A heavy downpour of the monsoon on Sunday midnight lashed Badin and its suburbs areas.

The rains coupled with lightning and thunder storm started at 12:05 midnight and continued for over 20 minutes.

The rain made weather pleasant as it broke the hot spell which was persisting for the last one week.

The power supply was interrupted due to the rain and windstorm.

MIRPURKHAS: Strong winds uprooted trees and signboards while power supply was suspended with the first drop of rain.

The rain continued for half an hour inundating low- lying areas and roads. Electricity was restored at 5am.

A girl was injured while a buffalo was killed in rain related incidents on Sunday.

Salma, 10, a resident of Bukhari town, was injured when a wall of veranda caved in.

She was rushed to a private hospital.

A buffalo of master Allah Wasayo was burnt to death due to lightning in Jamnadas colony near Nawabshah railway crossing.

DADU: A heavy dust storm followed by light rain hit power and communication system in Jamshoro and Dadu districts on Monday.
