Countrywide protests threatened

Published June 26, 2006

LAHORE, June 25: Rejecting the increased working hours for labourers under the recently-amended factory act, the National Trade Union Federation has threatened to launch a countrywide movement against the “anti-labour” decision.

Speaking at a joint press conference here on Sunday, the federation leaders announced that they would stage a demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club on June 30 as a first step towards fighting for the cause of labourers.

They also planned a countrywide labour convention in July for chalking out future strategy for the movement.

The federal government has introduced and got approved the amendment by including it in the finance bill.
