ISLAMABAD, June 24: A four-day Envoys Conference that opens here on Monday will bring together 28 serving ambassadors of Pakistan posted in world’s key capitals to review the country’s foreign policy.

The conference being hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and President Gen Pervez Musharraf will chair the concluding session.

The participants representing diverse regions will include envoys from the P-5 capitals. Pakistan’s Permanent Representatives to the UN in New York and in Geneva will also be present.

The conference will review the Pakistan’s foreign policy including current issues, bilateral relations with key countries, trade, economic and organisational matters and projection and publicity matters, the Foreign Office spokesperson said Saturday.

The recommendations of the conference would be submitted to the president and the prime minister.

The Envoys Conference was earlier scheduled for November 2005 but was postponed following the October 8 earthquake.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said the Envoys Conferences was a regular feature and the last such conference was held here in 2003.

The foreign ministry also holds regional envoys conferences in various capitals from time to time. “In addition, the ministry of commerce organises regional conferences of our ambassadors which focus exclusively on trade and economic matters,” the spokesperson said.—Q.A.
