LAHORE, June 24: Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has directed the Water and Sanitation Agency officials to make arrangements for speedy storm water drainage during the monsoons and avoid repeating mistakes made in the past.

Presiding over a meeting held at the Jinnah Hall here on Saturday to review Wasa’s Monsoon Action Plan, he said coordination should be improved with Lesco to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the disposal stations through alternative connections. Arrangements should also be made to ensure functioning of stations in case of power failure.

He said all the drains should be cleaned before the start of rainy season. Special teams with dewatering sets should be deployed for draining storm water from the low-lying areas. Generators had been made available at all the 13 pumping stations for use in the event of power breakdown.

The Wasa officials told the nazim that the agency had completed desilting of 3,200 kilometre long sewerage lines and 83 storm water drains. As many as 21 centres had been set up for registering complaints pertaining to storm water drainage. The centres would function round-the-clock from July 1 to September 30. As many as 350 dewatering sets had been provided to town municipal administrations for pumping storm water from low-lying areas.
